On what was a perfect evening for personal best all 3 athletes and coach that made the trip didn’t disappoint.
First up and in the same race were twins Esther and Molly in the Under 15 Girls 1500m. Esther nearly didn’t run as she is having problems with her back but warmed up well and we decided to go of hard from the start and see what happened. Going through 800m spot on target time and then pushing the 3rd lap as hard as she could before finding an extra kick with 300m to go gave Esther a huge personal best by 6 seconds. This now ranks Esther 4th in the Yorkshire rankings and 19th in the North of England. Molly who struggles with nerves for racing didn’t show any of that tonight. Setting of a bit more conservative that Esther slowly worked her way through the field looking very strong over the final 500m again came away with a personal best by over 7 seconds. Much more to come from Molly when we get the confidence to go of hard like Esther.
Harry Roffey who has only been training with us for 3 weeks went in the Under 17 men’s 800m. Again Harry was unsure whether he would race after a slight niggle to his foot but got the go ahead from physio on Monday night. Going through 400m in what we wanted before struggling slightly from 500m – 600m found a burst of energy to finish really quickly over the last 150m to run a 3 second personal best in which is only is 2nd ever 800m race. A tough winter for Harry will definitely see him challenge Team Russell records next track season where he will still be an Under 17.
Also a big well done to Coach Hayes who set a new personal best in the 3000m and once again when Richard learns how to run on the track those times will come down by quite some margin.
