Northern Indoor Open Meeting – 07/12/2019

The second of the Northern Indoor open meetings saw six of our athletes competing with four new personal best and two new Team Russell records.

Records :

Lilly May Hughes is getting faster and stronger every week and once again this showed here with a big personal best in the Long Jump getting very close to that target of 5 metres. Struggling with the new longer run up on the first two jumps which were big jumps but slightly over. Once we nail this new run up expect some big distances from Lilly.
George Connelly has been working hard on his run up and technique through the air the last few months and again like Lilly this showed here with a big personal best with a very impressive distance for this time of the year. Could George go close to that 5 metre mark outside … The way things are going he won’t be far of which for an Under 13 would be amazing.

Personal Best :

Shen Wigfield-Turner went in the 600 metres. Running a big personal best but not quite the time we was after. Spot on through the first 200 metres before the leaders slowed up on the second lap and then Shen pushed on the last lap running negative splits. A few more races getting used to the pace we are targeting should see Shen go 1.36 minutes which will put us in a good place to target a big personal best over 800 metres.

Reuben Byfield set a 40 cm personal best in the Under 15 Boys Long Jump – Reuben has been doing just one session a week with us but hopefully will start doing some sprint sessions over the next few weeks which will make a big difference and like Lilly and George will go over that 5 metre mark very soon.

Well done also to Molly Gray who came very close to her personal best over 60 metres and that was after falling out of the blocks on the first step. A few more races getting used to the blocks as this was her first time using them get ready for some super quick times. Ben Morton had another great competition in the Long Jump just short of his personal best and was his 2nd best distance ever.

Well done Everyone ……
