Sheffield Senior Schools Cross Country – Fixture 1

The first fixture at the very challenging High Hazels park. We had ten athletes in total competing with everyone finishing in the top 10.

Year 7 Boys – Will Platts had a great run to come away a convincing winner. A quiet summer for Will but the last 4 weeks we have slowly increased the training again and it showed here. I am looking forward to the rest of the season and seeing Will compete at the Yorkshires and Northern Championships in the new year. Elliot Reed also ran extremely well to finish in 3rd place. The boys were backed up by Elliot English in 7th place and new comer to the group Louie Trikic coming home in 10th place. This was a big improvement for Louie and with a few more months training could see Louie in the top 5.

Year 7 Girls – Heather Berry who has had a few niggles recently wanted to give it ago here as she always does. An excellent run finishing in second place. Like Will I am excited to push Heather now the next few months and see how she does in the bigger competitions in the new year.

Year 8/9 Girls – Rebecca Evans looked really strong and in control of this race from the of and came away a convincing winner. A few hard months now should see Rebecca challenge at some of the bigger races in the new year. This cross country season is all about preparation for next summer and hopefully some super fast times over 800 metres.

Year 8/9 Boys – George Wallace who has stepped up his training the last 4 weeks and really showed here with an excellent 4th place. George was the first Year 8 home so a big improvement from last year’s Cross Country season.

Year 10/11 Girls – Annie Naylor stepped up an age group. After an excellent track season finishing 6th at the English Schools 1500 metres Annie has been looking really strong in training the last couple of weeks. Annie was a convincing winner here and also beat all the Year 12 and 13 Girls. Maybe Esther Rowe-Towle may have something to say about that who decided to train instead of running here. Looking forward to the rest of the season to see if Annie can match her 2019 Cross Country season. Polly Platts who had quite a serious injury and missed a few months training and even now has to be careful with the amount of training she actually does. Polly finished an excellent 4th place and was 2nd Year 10 Girl home. Katie Smith also had a great run finishing in 7th place.

Year 10/11 Boys – Adam Hirst who has looked really good in training the last few weeks had a superb run here to finish in 3rd place. If Adam can get a few months consistency leading up to Christmas we could see some great results in the New Year.

Well done everyone a great start to the cross country season …..
