Sheffield Senior Schools Cross Country – Fixture 1

The first fixture of the Cross Country for our secondary school athletes. Held on a testing course at High Hazels we had ten athletes competing.

Year 7 Boys – George Wallace had a great run to finish in 3rd place only 3 seconds behind the winner. A little more confidence over the longer distances could see George become Sheffield Schools Cross Country Champion this year. Ben Naylor also had a great run finishing in 10th place.

Junior Boys – George Kriel who has been working really hard over the last few months and sticking to everything that has been set for him. This showed here as George came away with a convincing 1st place. Adam Hirst who has struggled with niggles over the last few months and has struggled to put back to back weeks together had an excellent run to come away with 2nd place. If Adam can string together a few months of hard consistent training we should see Adam have a great Cross Country season.

Junior Girls – Annie Naylor did exactly what I asked of her. Setting of hard up the very steep hill she broke away and just got stronger as the race went on and came away a convincing winner. Polly Platts who has worked really hard like George over the last few months ran very strongly to finish in 2nd place. Katie Smith ran really well and I knew from training just recently she would be up there. Katie didn’t disappoint and finished in 4th place only 1 second behind 3rd. A big step forward Katie well done. Rebecca Evans had the run of her life to finish in 5th place only 1 second behind Katie and 2 seconds behind the third place. Rebecca is the younger end of this age group but just shows what can happen if you step up your training a little. Well done girls all 4 of you have a chance of going to the English Schools Championships this year.

Inter Girls/Inter Boys – Maggie Naylor ran really well to finish in 8th place overall and George Bellamy also had a good race to finish in 7th place. Both Maggie and George are the younger end of this age group.

Well done everyone …. Keep up the hard work.
