The first fixture of the local Cross Country Series held at Clifton Park. A great turn out with eight of our athletes competing in the torrential rain. We had some great individual performances.
Under 11 Girls – Issy Waugh who has been working hard on her speed over the last few months. The aim of this is so that Issy can start the races much faster as in the past she had been left over the first couple of hundred metres and was left with a lot to do over the second part of the race. This really showed here as she was able to follow the leaders over the first part of the race. We had a plan and stuck to it and Issy came away a clear winner getting stronger as the race went on. Training partner Heather Berry who also struggles going of harder and finds herself with lots to do over the second half of the race. This is something we will be working on with Heather. Again Heather did get caught up a little at the start but had a storming second half of the race to finish a very creditable 10th place out of the 37 runners.
Under 11 Boys – William Platts had a great race again after racing yesterday at the Schools event. Unlike the girls Will doesn’t have the problem of setting of hard and did what was planned setting of hard and relaxed and then pushing on at half way. Finishing strongly on the last few hundred metres Will came away a comfortable winner. Training partner Elliot Reed was told to follow Will and hang on as long as possible and did exactly that and followed Will home to finish an excellent 2nd place. Elliot English again ran really well after yesterdays Schools race to finish strongly up the final hill to come home in 7th place out of the 34 runners. These Boys will be looking at getting amongst the medals at this weekends North of England Cross Country relays.
Under 13 Boys – Zak Ferguson had a good run and is where we want to be at the moment. Not easing down for the race with the main target been the Yorkshires in January. Zak had a good solid run finishing in 2nd place out of the 27 runners.
Under 15 Girls – Annie Naylor who’s main target is the Yorkshires in January so like Zak didn’t ease down going in to this race. This race was great to watch with Annie going head to head with a very strong girl from Rotherham. Leaving in to the final hill Annie put a spurt in and managed to put a slight gap between them both to come away with the win. Polly Platts who really is working hard at the moment and is showing with some great results and has made a big step forward since last winter. Polly finished in 6th place out of the 27 runners.
Well done everyone …..
