06/04/2019 – Charnwood Open Meeting

A good turn out for Team Russell with our athletes competing over a number of different events from Running, Jumping and Throwing. Conditions were difficult as was a strong head wind in the home straight with some reading’s measuring at over -4.0. This didn’t stop some great performances and a few Team Russell records along the way.
The Team Russell records went to Ella Kynoch in the Under 15 girls Discus. It was just a matter of time before Ella throw the English Schools qualifying distance. With a no throw to start with Ella got her head together and produced the distance in the second round and put the pressure of. Ella also set an outdoor personal best in the Shot Put. Hard work over the next 2 months now will hopefully see Ella make a top 8 at the English Schools. New comer Nathaniel Dyas went in the Under 17 Men’s Long Jump. In difficult conditions running into a head wind and was struggling to hit the board still managed to set a new personal best and in doing so beat his own Team Russell record. Another few months and I am pretty sure we will see Nathaniel go over 6 metres. Such a raw talent. I am very excited to see just how far we can go this year.
There were plenty of personal best on the day also …. Zak Ferguson set a new personal best in the 800 metres. I am excited to see how quick Zak will now go during the rest of the season. George Bellamy who has struggled to get more than back to back weeks of training together over the last few months equalled his best in the 800 metres. Fingers crossed we can stay injury free over the next few months and George will go under 2.10 mins. Harry Atkinson set a personal best in the Under 15 Boys Javelin and went to number two on the Team Russell rankings. I am sure her will beat that record over the next few months with a few more competitions. Freddie Saunders set a personal best in the 100 metres and made the top 8 on the all time rankings for Under 11 Boys.  Well done Freddie.
Well done Tyler Wingfield and Will Platts who both came close to their personal best in tough conditions so I am sure we will see these two set personal best in the next few months …..
A great day everyone keep working hard.
