19/04/2019 – Run Jump Throw Meeting

The first Run Jump Throw meeting of the year saw some great weather although the sprinters found it pretty difficult with a few of the races seeing the wind readings at – 2.0 or above. We had 22 of our athletes competing with plenty of personal best and six Team Russell records.

Team Russell Records :

Neve Connelly stormed to victory in the Under 9’s race in a very impressive 10.78 seconds and what makes this even more impressive is Neve is still an Under 9 next year also. Jorja Turner was just as impressive in the Under 11 Girls 100 metres setting a new record in an impressive 16.24 seconds and just like Neve has next year in this age group also. Claudia Cole who has only just started working on the spin in the Discus set a new Under 17 ladies record and I am sure we will see much bigger distances after a few more competitions. Thomas Hennessey who has been working hard on technique week in week out in the Javelin set a huge personal best in the Under 13 Boys Javelin. Thomas ranks number 1 in Yorkshire with this throw and 11th in the UK. Thomas also has next year in this age group. Ben Morton who is going from strength to strength each week beat his own Under 15 Boys Long Jump record. Ben had some huge jumps that were slight fouls so I am sure we will see some much bigger distances throughout the summer. Hakeem Yasin – Quintilla set a huge personal best in the 100 metres in to a headwind so I am sure we will see some quicker times this summer.

Personal Best :

Scarlett Reed Under 9 Girls 60 metres and Long Jump, Isabelle Reed Under 9 Girls 60 metres, Olivia Russell Under 11 Girls 60 metres and Long Jump, Molly Gray Under 13 Girls 100 metres and 200 metres, Issy Waugh Under 13 Girls 800 metres, Isabelle Chapman Under 15 Girls 100 metres and Discus, Katie Smith Under 15 Girls 800 metres, Nicole Mafirakureva Under 17 Ladies Long Jump, Will Platts Under 13 Boys 800 metres, George Wallace Under 13 Boys Long Jump, George Conelley Under 13 Boys 100 metres, James Wainwright Under 15 Boys 100 metres, Harry Atkinson Under 15 Boys Javelin and Long Jump and George Bellamy Under 17 Men’s 800 metres.
