Cross Country Season 2020 – Outstanding Performances

1. Isabella Waugh (Sheffield Tri Club) Yorkshires 3rd, Northern’s 5th, Nationals 6th and Inter Counties 11th. An amazing year for Issy and what made the results more incredible are that Issy still has another year in this age group. She will also be able to compete in the English Schools next year for the first time. She reminds me of a certain Natalia Hackett who holds the top 4 all time performances for Team Russell. Could Issy be with the one to surpass these ?.

2. Cyane Robinson (Rotherham Harriers) Yorkshires 1st, Northern’s 5th, Inter Counties 13th, Nationals 18th and BUCS ‘A’ Race 40th. An excellent season for Cyane considering she started her first year at university in York and partied hard for the first time for a good few months. A very consistent season bring on the track season.

3. Esther Rowe-Towle (City of Sheffield & Dearne) Northern’s 2nd, English Schools 13th. A very quiet season for Esther and although she was hoping for a top 10 at the English Schools after looking at the athletes in front of her it was a quality field and Esther was in her first year. Esther is now looking forward to working on her speed now this track season something she has never done before.

4. Neve Hardcastle (Longwood Harriers) Yorkshires 2nd, Northern’s 4th, Great Sterling Cross Country 14th, English Schools 30th, Inter Counties 69th. An excellent season for Neve was a shame about the Inter Counties as she was really ill leading up to this Championships.

5. Holly Brewster (Longwood Harriers) Yorkshires 1st, Northern’s 5th, English Schools 31st, Inter Counties 43rd. Again a great season for Holly and big improvement on previous years. An excellent win at the Yorkshires and then a great performance at the English Schools with still next year in the same age group.

6. Annie Naylor (Hallamshire Harriers) Yorkshires 2nd, Inter Counties 34th, English Schools 34th. A relatively quiet season for Annie with some solid performances in the big three races she did.

7. Zak Ferguson (Rotherham Harriers) Yorkshires 10th, Northern’s 25th, English Schools 22nd. Zak mixed the cross country season up with some indoor races and saved his best performance until the English Schools with a superb 22nd place.

8. Bobbie Waugh (Sheffield Tri Club) Yorkshires 19th, Northern’s 50th, English Schools 48th, Nationals 54th. Bobbie got better as the season went on having two great runs at the Nationals and English Schools Championships.

9. Will Platts (City of Sheffield & Dearne) Yorkshires 7th, Inter Counties 54th. The Inter Counties performance stood out for me as Will was bottom age started at the back on the pen and ran the whole race in just one shoe. Again like Issy Will can run in the English Schools next year.

Also well done to Polly Platts who made the English Schools Cross Country Championships and Heather Berry, George Wallace and Elliot Reed who made big improvements this year.

Bring on the track season …………………..
