English Schools Cross Country Championships

Senior Boys – First year Alfie Manthorpe saved his best race of the cross country season until the last race. Running very well and beating people that had beaten Alfie all season. Coming home in 51st place overall and he tells me he was 14th overall for his age group. Training partner and 800m specialist Julian ran very well but found the 7,200m course tough going coming home in 115th place out of the 324 runners. Well done boys now bring on that warm weather training at Easter and then the track season where both boys will be aiming to qualify for the English Schools.
Senior Girls – Emily Simpson was taking part in her 8th English Schools Championships a great achievement in itself. After a far from ideal lead up to the event with injuries and illnesses over the last year Emily ran a sensible and solid race to come home in 136th place out of the 301 runners. A tough few months now fingers crossed without any injuries and illnesses will hopefully see Emily qualify for her 9th English Schools in the summer.
Junior Girls – Twins Molly and Esther probably wouldn’t have believed you 6 months ago if you said they would have been competing at the English Schools Championships. Apart from the Sheffield Schools and South Yorkshire Schools this was only the cross country races they have taken part in. So to see almost 400 people on the start line must have been a little daunting. Although both girls were disappointed with their runs and we know they are much better than the results suggest …… I am very proud of them after only training for 4 months. Coming home in 195th and 208th out of the 344 runners that took place. These girls will be back for sure in the coming years …..
Unfortunately Olivia Parkes and Cyane Robinson had to pull out of the event with injuries. Well done everyone now bring on that track season
