A relatively small turn out here for our Team with a lot of our runners deciding to concentrate on the Inter Counties and English Schools Championships coming up in the next few weeks. This didn’t stop some superb performances from our 5 athletes that made the journey to Nottingham. This was probably in the top 2 worse conditions I have ever seen over the last 17 years of cross countries but didn’t stop some amazing performances.
Under 13 Girls : Issy Waugh (Sheffield Tri Club) is in superb form this winter running extremely well at the Yorkshires and Northern Championships. We knew Issy was in great shape after the last two weeks of training and was going in to this with the hope of a top 10 and we had our fingers crossed the conditions were going to be brutal. We got the tough conditions for sure and Issy proved to us the tougher the better. An excellent 6th place and only 1 second behind 5th. The first Yorkshire and Northern runner home and I believe was first bottom age runner home. Excellent result Issy this will I am sure put you in contention for the performance of 2020. Heather Berry (Rotherham Harries) also had an excellent run to finish 115th out of the 357 runners and like Issy still has another year in this age group. Heather was 5th South Yorkshire runner home an excellent achievement. Watch out for this girl the next few years as she will just keep on getting better and better.
Under 13 Boys : George Wallace (City of Sheffield & Dearne) who has improved the most out of any Team Russell athlete this winter and carried on the good form here with an excellent 81st out of the 384 runners. George was 8th Yorkshire runner home. Well done George an excellent Cross Country season.
Under 15 Girls : Bobbie Waugh (Sheffield Tri Club) like her sister runs better the tougher the conditions so for the sister’s this weekend was pretty much perfect. Saving her best result of the year until the biggest race of the year coming home in 54th position out of the 390 finishes. Bobbie was 6th Yorkshire runner home excellent running Bobbie and still next year in this age group. Bring on the English Schools Championships in a few weeks time.
Under 20 Ladies : Cyane Robinson (Rotherham Harriers) is getting better as the Cross Country season goes on. Again Cyane has always ran better in tougher conditions so like the Waugh’s Cyane was happy when she knew it was knee deep in mud. An excellent run to finish in 18th place out of the 131 finishes. Cyane was 1st Yorkshire runner home and 6th Northern runner. Well done Cyane keep working hard and bring on the Inter Counties in a few weeks.
