A great meeting held in Liverpool this year …. Not the best of weather with some very strong winds making the distance events tough going. We had three of our athletes competing this year. Harry Roffey in the Under 17 men’s 800 metres, Annie Naylor in the Under 15 Girls 1500 metres and Zak Ferguson Under 13 Boys 800 metres.
Harry Roffey who has struggled with niggles over the last 3 months has struggled to put together more than 2 weeks of training was unsure whether to compete as he is not in the shape we know he is capable of. I suggested not running but Harry decided to give it a go. Running extremely well under all circumstances Harry threw himself over the line (ending up in the ambulance after) and finished in 3rd place.
Annie Naylor was disappointed afterwards no to run a personal best as she is in great shape and the result didn’t reflect the shape she is in. We have to remember this is only Annie’s 5th ever 1500 metre race and only 7th track race this year so all in all I was happy with 5th place out of the 14 runners and still has next year in this age group.
Zak Ferguson decided to try a different tactic this time out – Going out faster than ever before over the first 500 metres faded slightly in the last 200 metres and was slightly disappointed in the end result. Again this result didn’t reflect the shape Zak is in but still 3rd place in the North of England behind two great runners that are both ranked in the top 12 in the UK rankings for the year.
Well done everyone another great day for Team Russell
