North of England Cross Country Relays

We had a great turn out at one of my favourite events of the year. We have had huge success at this meeting over the last 14 years and 2018 was no different with some superb performances from our athletes. This was the first year where we had 3 athletes competing together in the same Team.

Under 11 Boys – Three of our boys were chosen to compete for City of Sheffield & Dearne ‘A’ Team and we knew after recent results in the Schools and South Yorkshire Cross Country races they had a chance of mixing it with the best runners in the North of England. We had Elliot Reed running first leg who put the boys right in the mix passing on to Elliot English in 4th place. Elliot ran well to hold his own passing over to Will Platts in 6th place. A big ask for Will but with recent form we knew we had a chance of coming home with a medal. A storming leg from young man working his way through the field and with 200 metres left he had worked his way in to the Bronze medal position. A big push over that last few hundred metres and Will found himself finishing in an excellent Silver medal position. Will’s time was the fastest of the day. Well done boys an excellent performance.

Under 13 Boys – Zak Ferguson was running for the City of Sheffield & Dearne ‘A’ Team. Our aim was to run the first leg and go of hard and hopefully run one of the fastest legs of the day. Going straight to the front and getting stronger as the race went on Zak pulled away half way around the course and brought his Team home in 1st position and in doing so came away with the fastest time of the day. Well done Zak great running.

Under 15 Girls – Annie Naylor went for Hallamshire Harriers ‘A’ Team who had 4 teams in total. A great start to the cross country season been unbeaten so far in the local races. Annie was joined by two of the countries top middle distances runners so were amongst the favourites to come away with the win. Annie ran a storming first leg for the Team with a superb time. Annie’s time was the 4th fastest of the day and the team won by quite some distance. Well done Annie great running.

Under 15 Boys – George Kriel Parr and Adam Hirst were picked for City of Sheffield & Dearne ‘A’ Team. Both boys are running well at the moment and putting in the hard work. Both been bottom age we knew it would be a tough ask. George running the 2nd leg and Adam the 3rd held their own against the North of England top runners. Adam brought the team home in 17th place out of the 35 complete teams. Both boys will be back next year looking to get amongst the medals.

Senior Women – Cyane Robinson was picked for Rotherham Harriers ‘C’ Team. A tough 3/4 weeks for Cyane as she prepares for exams for university places so running has been the second priority. Running the first leg against some of the best senior runners in the North and Cyane only been a first year Under 20 we targeted coming back in the top 10. A good start and getting stronger as the race went on Cyane had a superb race bringing her team home in 4th place and in doing so recorded the 7th fastest time of the day and quickest Under 20 athlete by some distance. Cyane’s times was also quick enough to make the Rotherham Harriers ‘A’ Team who came away with the Gold Medal. Well done Cyane excellent running …..
