Thanks to Tom Grantham and the many people that made this event possible to go ahead and give many athletes the first chance to compete in a very long time.
Team Russell Records :
Ben Morton (Hallamshire Harriers) said before the competition he wanted to break both the 100 and 200 metre Under 15 Boys records. Ben has worked really hard over the last few months and after seeing him at the the track this last few weeks I knew he had a chance of doing what he set out to do. First up the 100 metres where Ben hadn’t run under 13 seconds before smashed that with 12.37 seconds to break record number one. After seeing this I knew the 200 metre record was going to be broken too. Not going under 27 seconds before electronically timed Ben not only went under 26 seconds he went under 25 with 24.90 seconds. Well done Ben … This is a great example that hard work beats talent any day. Ella Kynoch (City of Sheffield & Dearne) was well below her best in the Under 17 Ladies Discus but set a new record. This last 5 months has been much tougher for the throwers not been able to get to the track and its only this last few weeks we have started throwing again. Ella has started using a new technique and sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t and tonight it didn’t. Ella will be back with much bigger distances once we get more consistent with the full spin. This girl is one of the most determined I have ever worked with. Watch this space ……
Personal Best :
Molly Gray (City of Sheffield & Dearne) smashed her personal best in the 100 metres making her number 1 ranked in Yorkshire and 5th in the England rankings for the year. Molly also smashed her outdoor personal best in the 200 metres. Will Platts (City of Sheffield & Dearne) ran a huge personal best in the 800 metres. This boy is absolutely flying in training. A few more races and someone to push him should see him challenge one of Team Russell’s toughest records. Grace Igoe (Hallamshire Harriers) first year Under 13 also ran a huge personal best in the 800 metres. I am really excited to work with Grace over the next few years. She has something a little different. Annabelle Sibley (Hallamshire Harriers) ran an outdoor personal best over 800 metres. Bring on that Cross Country season and my challenge of getting you that Yorkshire vest. Caitlin McCloy (Hallamshire Harriers) also set an outdoor personal best over 800 metres. Like Annabelle, Caitlin is new to the group and I am excited for the 2021 cross country season after seeing the last month’s training at Graves Park. Watch out for this girl over the next few years. Alfie Ferguson (Rotherham Harriers) Under 13 Boys 100 metres. George Bellamy (City of Sheffield & Dearne) was hoping to become the fastest 800 metre in the group for the year and although set a personal best didn’t manage to get his target. Elliot English (City of Sheffield & Dearne) ran well in the Under 13 Boys 800 metres to set a big personal best. Elena Inch (Holmfirth Harriers) set a personal best in the Under 17 Ladies 800 metres. Again I am excited to put in the hard now leading up to Christmas and see how close we can get to that Yorkshire vest.
Well done to the rest of our athletes George Connelly (City of Sheffield & Dearne), Casey Musgrave (Hallamshire Harriers), Leah Gregory (Hallamshire Harriers), Holly Brewster (Longwood Harriers) and Daphney Adebayo (City of Sheffield & Dearne) who all performed well in their events.
An excellent night of athletics let’s hope for a few more events before the 2020 season comes to an end ……..
