Some excellent results with people saving their best for the championships –
Under 11 Girls (Year 5/6) – Issy Waugh (Y5) who is having a great season continued this with a superb 2nd place overall. This was a great race to watch as the lead exchanged hands several times with Issy’s Hallamshire Harries Team mate just getting the better of her by 2 seconds at the finish. Issy also finished 2nd overall in the League positions. Well done Issy keep working hard.
Under 13 Girls (Year 7/8) – Annie Naylor (Y8) who is also having a great cross country season again continued this here and had the best race of her life finishing a excellent 2nd place only to be beaten by the countries ranked number one and UK record holder for 800m runner. Annie set of steady and worked her way through the field and was getting stronger as the race went on. This now puts Annie in with a chance with a top 8 finish at the Yorkshires in the New Year. Bobbie Waugh (Y7) also saved her best until the championships and finished an excellent 7th place with still next year in this age group. We are pretty sure Bobbie was the first year 7 runner home. Bobbie still has another gear to give and once we find that expect some very good results from this young lady. Bobbie finished 9th overall in the League. Polly Platts (Y8) who has come on leaps and bounds this winter was under the weather and probably shouldn’t have run but wanted to give it a go. Polly had a solid run and finished in 11th place overall out of the 31 runners that finished. Overall in the League standings Polly finished an excellent 4th place.
Under 13 Boys (Year 7/8) – Zak Ferguson (Y7) who again is finding excellent form at the right time was very unlucky here not to come away with at least a 2nd place. Zak was leading for most of the race and was in a tussle with his Team mate until the final 150m where there was a very steep hill and Zak fell falling on ice and hitting the ground really hard. I have never seen someone fall so hard and get up and finish a race. He has all the cuts and bruises to go with it. Finishing a excellent 4th overall in the race. Because Zak got up and finished the race this meant he finished 3rd overall in the League standings. Really looking forward to the summer season as Zak will come close to beating two very good Team Russell records over 800m and 1500m.
Under 15 Boys (Year 9/10) – Well done to George Bellamy (Y9) who twisted his ankle at the start but still managed to finish the race coming home in 22nd place. George finished 11th overall in the League standings. Well done head down now and work hard so we can run some personal best in the summer over 800m and 1500m.
Under 17 Men’s (Year 11/12) Victor Baycroft (Y11) had a good run on the day to finish in 4th place. Victor picked up a medal for the overall League standings by finishing in 3rd place. Victor does really well on so little training.
Well done everyone and bring on 2018
