A great turn out at the first Indoor meeting of the year for our younger athletes. Ten of our athletes were competing with plenty of personal best and three new Team Russell records.
Team Russell Records :
George Connelly had a busy day playing football in the morning before heading over to the EIS in the afternoon. George broke his own Long Jump record and with a few more competitions should see George set a record that will be very hard to beat in the future. George also won the 60 metres and set a new Team Russell record. Lilly May Hughes set a big personal best in the 60 metres breaking Teoni’s Under 15 Girls record. A few more races working on the start should see Lilly run some times that should challenge at the North of England Championships. Our main aim is the longer sprint events in the summer so this winter we will be working on the shorter events and getting as fast as we can over 60 metres and 200 metres. Lilly was also expecting to beat her own Long Jump record but with two big no Jumps in the first two rounds we had to move the run up back and get a safe one in and was just short of her own Team Russell record.
Personal Best :
Ben Morton set a big personal best in the 60 metres to go number two on the rankings and was just short of his own Team Russell record in the Long Jump. Molly Gray set two big personal best in the Under 13 Girls 60 metres and 200 metres. She was just short of two very hard records to break but I am sure with a few more races she will challenge those very impressive records. Zak Ferguson had a busy weekend with Saturday been the National Cross Country relays and went here in the 800 metres. After a tough six months Zak is finally getting on top of the injuries and showed here with a big personal best and a few more races should see Zak go under 2.10 mins. George Wallace ran a personal best in the 800 metres and was close to his best in the 200 metres. George Seymour set a personal best in the 60 metres and 200 metres and brother Ben set personal best in the 200 metres, Long Jump and Shot Put. Jorja Turner equalled her personal best in the 60 metres and set a best in the standing High Jump.
Well done everyone keep working hard.
