Steel City Cup (Spinkhill)

A great turn out here for Team Russell with our athletes competing for the last time on the track in 2018 …. The weather made it difficult for personal best in all events with very strong winds on the home straight with the strongest headwind been measured at -4.1 m/s. This didn’t stop some great performances with plenty of 1st places for our athletes and a few Team Russell Records along the way.

Gold Medals – Kimece Spencer Under 13 Girls 100 metres and 200 metres. Kimece’s 100 metre time was very impressive into a – 2.1 headwind. Ella Kynoch Under 15 Girls Discus. Issy Waugh Under 11 Girls 800 metres. Issy’s new personal best ranks her 5th in the England rankings for the year. This also beat Issy’s own Team Russell record.  George Connelly has had an excellent season and was very dominant in the Under 11 Boys 100 metres. George Kriel Parr set a big personal best in the Under 15 Boys 800 metres and came away with 1st place. Will Platts was a clear winner in the Under 11 Boys 800 metres and likewise for Zak Ferguson in the Under 13 Boys 800 metres.

Silver Medals – Ella Kynoch set a big personal best in the Under 15 Girls Shot and go over 10 metres for the first time and go close to the English Schools qualifying distance. New comer Claudia Cole came away with a silver medal in the Under 15 Girls Discus. Claudia also set a personal best in the Shot Putt. A big winter should see Claudia throw some big distances next year. George Connelly couldn’t quite match his Gold medal in the 100 metres but ran extremely well in the 200 metres and come away with the silver medal. Issy Waugh competed for the first time in the High Jump and came away with the Silver medal and in doing so set a new Team Russell Record.

Bronze Medals – Issy Waugh added to her collection jumping well in to a strong head wind finishing 3rd in the Under 11 Girls Long Jump. Tyler Wingfield had a busy day competing in the 100 metres, Long Jump and 200 metres where he came away with a Bronze medal and he wasn’t far of his personal best in to a very strong headwind.

Personal Best – Well done to Amelia Holmes who set a 5 cm personal best in the Under 15 Girls High Jump. A tough winter should see Amelia get close to the English Schools qualifying distance next summer.

Well done also to Teoni Ojibah, Lily Calvert, Jamie Rhodes, Polly Platts, Elliot English, Ben Heaton and Daisy Kriel Parr who all ran extremely well and came close to their personal best …………………..
