Just two of our athletes were chosen this year to represent Yorkshire at one of the biggest events of the year.
First up was first year Under 17 Esther Rowe-Towle. We knew Esther was in great shape after the win at the Yorkshires and Silver medal in the Northern championships early on in the year. This was going to be a more of a challenge but Esther was up for it and we had a plan. The plan was to go of hard with the leading runners and see if we could hold on in the final 1/2 mile. Esther soon found herself at the front of the field and lead for most of the race. Half way round the leading pack was down to five athletes. Esther pushed hard over the final 300 metres and finished an excellent 4th place only 2 seconds behind the Bronze medal and 5 seconds behind the Silver medal. Esther was first bottom age athlete home. An excellent result and looks good going in to next week’s English Schools Cross Country Championships where Esther will be top end of the age group.
Next up was first year Under 20 Cyane Robinson. It’s been a tough couple of months for Cyane both of and on the track so wasn’t quite sure how today would go but Cyane been Cyane wanted to give it a go. We had a slightly different plan this time. The plan was to go of slower and work through the field. Cyane stuck to the plan and at the half way point was in the late 40’s. Working hard on the second part of the course and working through the field Cyane came home in a very respectable 29th place. An excellent result considering everything Cyane has had to deal with over the last few months. Now looking forward to next week’s English Schools Championships where we will be looking for a top 20 finish.
Well done girls keep up the hard work.
