We had 5 athletes competing here and had some great results. The conditions were horrendous and people did well just to stay on their feet.
Under 13 Boys : Zak Ferguson did exactly what we planned and got out hard. Our target for Zak was to finish in the top 40. Working really hard throughout the race and finishing really strong Zak finished in 43rd place. Only 10 seconds and Zak would have been in the top 30. This is a great performance to say we still have next year in this same age group. Zak was also the first Yorkshire runner home. Jamie Rhodes who has only just started back training last week after 4 weeks out with an injury found it tough and finished 219th out of the 309 runners. Another few weeks and then warm weather training and Jamie will be back to his best.
Under 13 Girls : Annie Naylor again who has only just started running again after been ill and hasn’t managed to train in almost 3 weeks. We decided to give it a go and glad that we did. Although not quite at her best Annie ran really well and finished in 39th place out of the 302 runners. Annie was part of the Yorkshire Team that finished in 2nd place overall. A great achievement well done.
Under 17 Ladies : This was the race last year where Cyane was carried in to the first aid tent and didn’t run for 4 months after finding out she had a stress fracture. Coming here we were hoping of a top 20 finish would would have been excellent. We discussed to go out harder than she as ever before and glad we did as she managed to hold it together in really tough conditions and finish in 14th place out of the 278 runners. Cyane was also part of the Yorkshire Team that won the Gold medal. Bring on the English Schools next week and then on to warm weather training before the track season.
Under 20 Ladies : Emily Simpson turned up and saw the course and almost turned around and went home. Emily will be the first to tell you she struggles in conditions like it was. We are only doing the cross country season for one thing in mind and that is running some fast times on the track this summer. Setting of fairly conservative Emily worked her way through the field and finished in 77th place out of the 170 runners. Our target was to finish in the top half and we did that easily. English Schools next weekend and then to get that English Schools qualifying time early doors.
Well done everyone a great day apart from the mud ……
