YDL & South Yorkshire Track and Field League

A busy weekend of athletics for Team Russell with the Lower Age Group Youth Development League on Saturday followed by the first South Yorkshire Track and Field League Meeting on Sunday.

Saturday saw 11 of Team Russell been picked to compete with lots of new personal best been set ….. Teoni had a busy day running close to her personal best in the 200m and then ran a personal best in the 300m and getting the joint fastest time of the day not to bad to say she spent all day moaning about doing it. Llily Calvert ran a big personal best in the 100m and in doing so won the ‘B’ string event. Esther Towle is going from strength to strength each week and set a big personal best in the 1500m. Lahana Vardy as per usual had a busy day running a personal best in the 1500m, set a High Jump personal best and then ran a very good leg of the 4x300m. Our Under 13 Boys were out in force all running personal best. Joseph won the 1500m in a big personal best and Jamie followed in closely in 4th place overall winning the ‘B’ string event. Adam Hirst ran very well in the 800m and finished 2nd overall. George Bellamy had a busy day running a personal best in the Under 15 Boys 800m and then went on to help the team out by doing the Javelin and Shot. Under 13 Girls Ella Kynoch and Rim Kanar also had busy days doing 3 events each ….. Ella wasn’t quite at her best maybe she was tired from the warm weather training ??

James Wainwright had a busy weekend setting 3 personal best over the two days of competition. A big personal best in the 100m at the YDL followed by a personal best in the Long Jump at the South Yorkshire League and going over 4 metres for the first time. Once this boy has a growth spurt who knows just how fast and far he will go. Adam Hirst went on to set another personal best on the Sunday after only setting a best the day before. Was Great to see Oliver Clayton competing for the first time and I am sure we will see him back for more. Lucas Ward is gaining is confidant each week and was great to see him competing again. The Hennessey brothers had a busy day with younger brother Thomas coming out on top this time with a personal best in the 80m and then a huge throw in the cricket ball finishing in 2nd place overall .
